WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER IS NOT WORKING FROM DSL

hello i recently swicthed from aol dial up to verizon/msn
dsl and my default media player is still real player,
which is now not working. i redownloaded the windows
media player and it worked that one day. then i got back
online today and tried to listen to a file and the
realplayer popped back up. i wanna know how to changed my
settings to use windows media player for my internet ,
there is no option to change it in my control panel . and
when i go to My Computer , it still shows AOL as my
internet source

a) get rid of AOL completely (even in the registry)

b) get rid of real player

c) re-install WMP9

d) give me a hangover cure.
