Windows Media Player and LCD Projector

When using an LCD projector for presentations, why does the Windows Media
Player stay 'on top' up on the LCD, even if it's been paused on the laptop.
It doesn't allow you to switch to Powerpoint or another program unless you
close Windows Media Player. How can I fix this?

possibly because Powerpoint wants to use the sound card and WMP has it in
use (until closed)
