I don't know why, but it maybe that an entry for media player has got placed
in the startup folder. Click your start button followed by run and type
'msconfig' (without the quotes) When the msconfig window opens click the
startup tab and carefully look through the entries. If you find media player
then remove the check mark from the box next to the entry. Click apply and
then ok to exit. The next time you reboot a message will appear telling you
that you are using troubleshooting mode. This will continue to appear
everytime you boot up unless you dfisable it by checking the box at the
bottom left of the window. Troubleshooting mode simply means you have made
alterations to the system configuration. Your pc works exactly the same.
Hope this helps

Windows Media Player 9 is starting up because of a wmplayer entry in
the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Policies>Run.
I believe this was caused by a trojan virus. This started happening
to me and a virus scan found a virus in a couple of files in the
windows media player directory. The first thing you should do is
clean up the virus. NAV only quarantined it so I uninstalled Windows
Media Player 9, removed all of the files from the directory under
"c:\program files\windows media player" and then went to the MS site
and reinstalled it.
