Windows media player 11 on Vista

Derek

Hi all,

As my player 11 incorporated with Vista Ultimate cannot playback online
streaming video/audio lately, can anyone advise how it can be uninstalled
and reinstall again ?

Many thanks!

Hi Beaua,

Many thanks for your quick reply.

The MP11 used to work when I download .asx file from the media site. After I
installed some programs, it has not worked playing the streaming video/audio
file. I tried to open the .asx file with Realplayer and Winamp yet they both
failed. Even the embeded CNBC Plus live video does not work when it used to.

I am frustrated with MP11 so my guess is to reinstall it. Can you shed some
light on how to resolve this ?

Dear Azchd and Beaua,

The following message in displayed when MP11 and Real player was used for
the streaming :

C00D11BB: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified
protocol is either not supported by the Player

Best regards,

What's a specific URL where you get this error?
When you click "Web Help" on that error dialog, what URL does it take you
to?

OK, that's the same protocol unsupported source error. So what's the
afflicted URL?

Did you try
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#networktab
as I suggested earlier?

On a related note, which specific error do you get when you try to
stream files these days?

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#reinstallvista
is relevant, but I'd start with:
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#networktab
if I were you.

According to MS you can't entirely remove MP11, which I would of
thought
so.
'Installing the Player'

Anywyas, is it only certain types of media that won't stream, or is
it
all?
And have you recently installed another type of media player, or
codec
package? such as CCCP?

Dear Zacht,

I am sorry that I did not try your method outllined in your link as it is
complicated to me. When I opened the streaming source from the URL:
http://www.rthk.org.hk/rthk/radio3/teresa_carpio/20071225.html

with MP11 : an error message protocol unsupported error message was
displayed
with Real player : it works fine

That is why I believe there is some problem with my MP11.

Best regards,
Derek

Given that error detail, you should probably follow these steps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940029

If that's too much for you, you might ask a computer-savvy mate to help you
through those steps in return for a sandwich or something. =)

Hi Zachd,

I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940029 by deleting
wmsdkns.xml. Then WP11 created a new wmsdkns.xml when I connected to a
streaming site. Surprisingly, it now works!!!

Amazing!

I should buy you a sandwish or a beer :)

I'll have a friend link up that Web Help response to that KB, so the

Once that's taken care of, anybody else running through this particular
