Windows Media Player 10 avi no color

I'm using Windows Media Player ver. 10.00.00.4019 the current version as of
this date. I'm running Windows XP with service pack 2 with all updates (I
have auto update on) and a Nvidia 6600 graphics card with the latest driver
ver. 84.21. I recently noticed (dont know when it started for sure) that all
the .AVI type files that I play are black and white with a few odd colors and
shadows thrown in. This is the only filetype that I've tried that does this,
also they play fine on Winamp. Any help would be appreciated.

MP 10 can play avi file because it have no codec, you have to download
the codec and install it.

Codecs are installed automatically with MP 10. And if it is one that is not
installed then how would I know what I needed and were to get it?
