Windows ME to Windows XP Home Upgrade

When upgrading I get a message that a program is running and it stops the
upgrade. It suggested Antivirus etc.. I removed the antivirus and killed any
open programs using alt + tab. Someone told me they had it done at a computer
place and the guy quote "disabled win ME" unquote by typing something to get
the upgrade to continue. If this is possible can someone give me some insight
into how they did it.

Assuming you have your ME disk and the XP upgrade disk, follow the
directions at:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_9xupgrade.asp

The trick is to boot off the XP disk, *not* your PC's HDD.

Yes I agree, but evidently this guy didn't have the ME CD and went to a DOS
prompt and disabled Windows ME. I had never heard of that before and was
wondering if anyone had, but this was second hand information so I don't know
how reliable it is.

Thanks for responding.
