From time to time my desktop will reset to classic windows view. Looking in
the event viewer I see the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7032
Date: 2/10/2007
Time: 9:47:17 PM
User: N/A
Computer: RUDI
Description:
The Service Control Manager tried to take a corrective action (Restart the
service) after the unexpected termination of the Windows Management
Instrumentation service, but this action failed with the following error:
An instance of the service is already running.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Also I lose sound. What is causing this?

Almost any theme other than Windows Classic needs the Theme service running.
Windows Classic theme does not need the Theme service running.

Make sure that the Themes service is set to Automatic and running.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Automatic | Click the Apply button | Click the Start button |
When the Themes service has started, click OK | Close Services

If that doesn't do it, visit here...

Read the instructions at the top.

One of these ought to help.

187. Restore Themes Functionality

187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme

214. Right hand side
Windows XP Style Changes to Windows Classic

271. Stuck in Classic View? Undo Now

If Luna.theme was missing and you downloaded it (187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme).

Luna.theme belongs in
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes
or
%windir%\Resources\Themes

Theme service is set to Automatic. The phenomena is that once in a while the
desktop is switching to classic and after few seconds it goes back to my
selected theme. After this happens I lose system sound and event ID will show
the error message about WMI service. Some thing is killing the Theme service.

Do I need to check "allow service to interact with desktop"?

Thank you.

The Svchost.exe process may end unexpectedly on a Windows Server 2003-based
computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910666

Maybe something there is related.
Do I need to check "allow service to interact with desktop"?

No, about the only services that need that are Indexing Service, NetMeeting
Remote Desktop Sharing, Network Connections, Print Spooler, Protected
Storage, Secondary Logon, Task Scheduler and some 3rd party services.

The Print Spooler service, for example, is responsible for sending data out
of the machine to a printer. When the print job completes or if the printer
is out of paper, the Spooler service notifies the user with a message box.
For the user to see this message box, the Allow service to interact with
desktop option must be checked.

There is no user interaction with the Themes service.

Allow service to interact with desktop:
[[Specifies whether the service provides a user interface on a desktop that
can be used by whomever is logged on when the service is started. This
option is available only if the service is running as a LocalSystem
account.]]

<quote>
In most cases, it is recommended that you not change the Allow service to
interact with desktop setting. If you allow the service to interact with the
desktop, any information that the service displays on the desktop will also
be displayed on an interactive user's desktop. A malicious user could then
take control of the service or attack it from the interactive desktop.

Anyone still out there? I'm having the identical problem.

What problem?
I have tried
all of the suggestions listed on the page in terms of registry
installation from #187 and #214.

What page?
Now my screen has a bluish hue to it.
Any suggestions?

The post you hijacked is no longer available in the newsgroups. You
should start your own thread and include details.

For a blue, or any other color hue, try pressing the Degauss button on
the front or back of the monitor.
