Your widows live.com address will not work with WM.
Download and install WLM.

Windows Mail can only access POP and IMAP accounts, not http.
So, unless you pay for a premium Hotmail/Live account, you can't access the
free accounts with WM.
Use the newer Windows Live Mail.

Do you have a paid or a free account?
I understand that those subscribing to the paid Hotmail Plus service
do have POP access to the Live.com server, but most people have
the free account which does not have POP access.
If you have a free account, you need to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
