Windows Mail

My Windows XP PC running Outlook 2003 recently gave up the ghost. I have
managed to salvage the hard drive and would like to migrate e-mail and
contacts from the old .pst file into my new Vista PC running Window Mail.
Can anyone help as there does not seem to be any easy way of doing this?

Thanks> I will try that. Had hoped not to have to install Outlook on my new
PC but looks like that might be the easiest solution.

You have two choices: 1. Install Outlook, preferably version 2003 or
later,
on your Vista PC. Versions 2000 and 2002 also run under Vista, but with
some problems. Windows Mail needs to use part of Outlook to be able to
import .pst files. 2. Find an older PC with both Outlook Express and
Outlook
installed. Import the .pst file into Outlook Express there, then import the
files
Outlook Express produces as a result into Windows Mail.

If you want your old contacts (address book), also bring across the .wab
file. After you copy the files to a directory on the hard drive of your
Vista
PC, make sure the copies are read-write instead of readonly before
importing them into Windows Mail.

If the import process doesn't bring in your old contacts, start Windows
Mail, then click Tools, then Windows Contacts, then Import, then Windows
Address Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then Import, then find
the .wab file and click it, then click Close, then close your contacts
window.

Not easy, but these two choices seem to be the best ways available for
doing it.

Dave,

But what do you do if you cannot reinstall outlook?

My old computer crashed and I only have the pst file from my old hard disk.
