My server uses ports 995, and 465, as you can see below. Are these ports
subject to the Port25 block as well? Is there a viable work-around for this
error? My error messages are included below:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: '(e-mail address removed)', Server: 'pop.bizmail.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

No, ports other than 25 are not blocked. You don't have a block because
your Windows Mail was able to open the initial connection with the server,
although it fizzled out shortly after.
'Unexpected' termination is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off your antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
your problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

I'm using windows live firewall/antivirus. I'm runnig 64-bit Vista Ultimate
and my choices are somewhat limited as a result... I'll check into the
wlmial. thanks.

well, Gary, I've downloaded and installed windows live mail and gotten the
same result. I use yahoo business mail, which has the option to automatically
set-up my pop3 mail server.. I attempted to utilize this option,
double-checked that the settings were as prescribed and received an error
message that appeared (to my untrained eye) to be identical. I will include
the error message again incase you see something I miss.

Unable to send or receive messages for the (e-mail address removed) account.

Since two email programs give the same error, it is unlikely that either
email program is at fault, and we need to look elsewhere for the cause.

Going back over your earlier problem statement, you said you were
running "windows live firewall/antivirus". That didn't ring a bell with me,
but now I wonder if you meant Windows Live OneCare? If so, there is
a known issue caused by a recent update to OneCare.
To fix it, in Windows Mail:
Click on Tools, Options, Security, Digital IDs. Under the Personal tab
you will see a digital ID. Highlight it and click the Remove button.
Restart your email program, and hopefully the error message will be gone.

Note: in WLM the menu path is slightly different (Safety Options
instead of Options).

Success! I had to make a couple additional tweaks to get it going properly..
but the error messages contained enough information to make that possible
with no further assistance needed. yes... I was referring to One Care - not
the greatest in my opinion, but better (by far) than none at all! Thank you,
so much for your time and effort in finding this solution!

I'm having trouble understanding your error message because it
contains many strange characters that shouldn't be there.

I see you are using Windows Live Mail. This newsgroup is dedicated
to the Windows Mail program. You are more likely to get help by
posting that issue in the Windows Live Mail newsgroup:

or via your news reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
