Windows Mail - email folders

Hello

Up until yesterday I had my emails sorted into folders. I used Rules and
had mail go into selected folders for friends, family, work etc.

Last night windows email froze. When the computer restarted and I opened up
Windows mail, for some reason the folders have disappeared and the emails
contained in the the folders with them. Please help, does anyone know what
has happened and how to I get them back. Some of these emails are really
important.

Don't know if this will help, but Windows Mail folders are located here:

C:\Users\..LogonID..\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\

...LogonID.. is whatever you Logon Name is.

If the folders and files are located here at least you still have manual
access to the files.

If you are an experienced user what I would TRY is to MOVE the folders
Windows Mail can't see to a temporary location.
Go into Windows Mail and recreate the folders, then manually COPY the FILES
from the temp folders into the newly created folders in the path listed
above.
Go back into Mail and see if it worked. If it did, delete you temporary
location folders.

If you don't move the "bad" folders first and try to recreate the folders in
Windows Mail, Mail will create new folders (eg.- folder Mom will be Mom (2))
This happened to me in WinXP OE once, I'm assuming it would happen in WinV
Mail.

Try this or WAIT to see if anyone has a simpler way to recover the folders
and messages.
You can at least see if the messages are still on your hard drive by
following the path.

If the whole folders list has disappeared, click on View, then Layout. If
there
is no check mark in the box before Folder List, click on this box, then
Apply.
Click on OK.

Or you can instead hover your cursor over the symbols to the right of
Send/Receive on the blue bar near the top of the window until you find the
one with the label Folder List, then click on it.

If the list still appears, but nothing appears below Local Folders, click on
the triangle to the left of Local Folders to make these folders appear or
disappear.

If you can make the folders appear, but not the messages inside, do this
for each such folder: Click on the folder, then View, then Current View,
then Show All Messages.

Ive tried to find the path, but not having much luck. Sorry to be so dim,
but can you tell me how to get to where the folders are located.
Ive gone into C and then users but all that comes up is a list of my
documents, music, etc

Did you enable the display of hidden and system files?

AppData is a 'hidden' folder. By default, Windows does not show
hidden files and folders. Go to Control Panel, Classic View, Folder
Options, View, enable "Show hidden files and folders."

Enabling "Show hidden" was one of the 1st things I did with Vista.
Thanks for pointing that out for AnnD.

And it might be as simple as Robert pointed out that she may have
compressed the "Local Folders". A simple double click on the
"Local Folders" icon may expand the list of folders.
