Windows mail deletes messages from in box

I receive mail, but after I have read mail in the inbox, when I close windows
mail and reopen the program all the read messages are gone?! Have checked
settings etc and don't see why this is happening?! Anyone?
 
When you have Inbox open, look near the upper right corner; does it say
"Hide Read Messages"? If so, change it to "Show All Messages."

OK great; I feel like a dork; but have not used Windows mail (obviously) and
have not seen something like this (why would they bother) but thanks to you
for this!

That feature is very useful when you like to visit and read various newsgroups.
It is not all that useful with email.
