Windows Mail & Contacts

I have suddenly developed two issues. 1. When I open Windows Mail, I now get
a security box asking for my ISP user name & password before the mail program
will operate, this is new. 2. When I open mail and click on the Contacts
Icon, instead of the contacts opening, I get a file folder of contacts and
must open from there, is new as well.
Thanks in advance for assistance

For the first problem, hat type of error is often caused by interference
from a non-compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off.

For the second problem, open Contacts, then right-click somewhere in that
empty white space to the far right. Select Customize This Folder,
click the little triangle. From the dropdown list select Contacts,
then Apply, OK, then close the Contacts window and open it again.

Thank you Gary, sorry I accidentally clicked No as to your answer helping
me. Maybe you can answer me back and I can click Yes. As to the virus
protection I am using One Care. Felt it best to stay with any and all
Microsoft products with Vista to eliminate any compatability issues.

A to the issue with Contact, I tried your suggestion but I still get the
folder upon opening rather then my contacts. When I double click the Contacts
folder it opens with them. Whatever happened within the last two days altered
the the just double clicking on the Cotacts Icon in the toolbar and having
the Contacts folder open.

Assuming you have the correct username and password, repeated
prompts for the username and password indicate that the account
may be corrupt. Delete ('remove') that account, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account.

I can't duplicate what you are seeing, and I don't know what would
cause that. Windows Mail has some unexplained problems with
OneCare. I had OneCare myself until about 17 months ago, when I
ditched it because of the unexplained problems. Rather than getting
rid of OneCare, you should consider upgrading your Windows Mail
to Windows Live Mail (WLM):

WLM is newer, has more features, and is more robust than Windows Mail.
