Compacting does not change the messages, it only removes the space taken up
by already deleted messages, freeing that space for other messages.
Interrupting the compacting process can cause messages to be permanently
lost if OE is not up-to-date.
Sorry, I gave an answer for Outlook Express.
Windows Mail just compacts the database, which contains information about
the messages but not the messages themselves.
So what exactly does that mean? After compacting, some old emails from my
inbox disappear. With Outlook it used to just archive them, but this does
something with them, and I don't know where they go!?!
Compacting means it's removing the deleted messages from the database to
free up more space. It doesn't delete the messages... you already did.
