Windows Mail and the Vista Firewall

I am new to Vista but an old hand with every other version of Windows.
I have set up Windows Mail with 2 accounts both of which work perfectly when
I switch off the firewall.
I have used MMC.exe to set the firewall up to stop outgoing programs but I
have entered Windows Mail as exceptions in both the outgoing and incoming
sections.
The connection obviously gets as far as the pop3 server because my error
message is the 'Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds........'
Can anybody tell me what else I need to do in the MMC Console please.

The problem may be in an antivirus program instead of the MMC Console.
Some of the common ones, such as most of those from Norton or
McAfee, cause various problems in Windows Mail, although seldom
immediately. Many of the others need to be custom installed, without
the module that scans email, to be compatible with Windows Mail.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
