Installing McAfee is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire!
While you have no third party security programs installed, delete
your email account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.
Did that resolve the issue?

Hmmm, tried that and it still didn't work
NAV is the culprit, it is largely incompatible with Vista and mostly
incompatible with ALL email programs. Disabling email scanning
(something
that should be done with all A/V applications) may resolve the
issue,
however, you may also have to completely remove NAV.
