No, it definitely started after the .net install. machine
worked fine with no software install for several months,
winkey worked fine, installed .net framework, winkey
ceased to work. nothing has been done since other than to
investigate (look at) system settings etc.
and yes, iv checked all those kinds of registry settings
(nowinkey combo and the one to turn off the winkey all
together)

Its doubtful that he .NET Framework update caused this.
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio n\Policies\Explorer
Look in the right pane for a value called NoWinKeys. If
it exists, double click it and set its value to 0 (zero).
If it doesn't exist, right click in a blank area of the
right pane, select New, DWord value and name it
NoWinKeys. Leave it at 0. Log off/log on to see the
change.
