Windows Live - One Care

Although I've looked around widely, I cannot find a reason why Windows
Defender should not be able to install on my PC simply because I'm currently
using One Care on a trial (90 days) basis. When endeavouring to install
Defender, I'm advised to uninstall One Care first!

I'm sure there must be a simple explanation ........... yet I have been
able to run both Defender and One Care happily on my wife's laptop (but in
that case, Defender was installed before One Care). Both computers are
installed with XP Home, SP2 and all updates.

Any comments will be much appreciated. TIA

There is: The current version of OneCare (v1.5, IIRC) /includes/ Windows
Defender, Dave. (Sounds like the missus is still running v1.0.)

MS has made web-forums available for OneCare support and questions. These
forums are not available via the newsgroup interface. See

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. See

I've now had a chance to check my wife's laptop and ....... yes, you've
guessed, right?

Wrong! My version is 1.5.1890.18 and hers is 1.5.1890.34 - they sound about
the same to me!
My Product ID starts with 9057-812 - hers with 9057-811

Her Windows Defender version is 1.1.1593.0
Product ID 81664-847-8704781-04682

Perhaps I'd better now pursue this in one of the forums you have mentioned.

Anything you'd like to say before I leave the matter here? I value your
advice!

Indeed ..............

What it did clarify (for me) was that if Defender is *already* installed, it
may stay in place even when One Care is loaded 'on top', whereas when One
Care is already in place, it is impossible to install Defender afterwards!
