Got the following message when trying to install new
software on my Windows XP computer. Last install before
getting this message was installation of SBC Yahoo!
service.

Message says: "The Windows Installer Service could not
be accessed. This can occur if you are running in
Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not
correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for
assistance."

Not sure who my "support personnel" is supposed to be.
Can't tell if I'm in safe mode (though I doubt it as
nothing appears different) and not sure where to even
look for the Windows Installer Service.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did anyone ever give you an answer? I'm having the same
or a very similar problem and I cannot seem to get an
answer anywhere - and I'm ready to smash the damn computer
to bits!
