Windows Installer

Hi All,

Currently having a problem on a PC where I am trying to install some
software from a CD (has been installed on another PC fine) but when the
install wizard gets going i get an error saying "Error 1500: Another
installation is already in progress, complete that one before you continue"
and then I click retry and get the same thing. I have rebooted and still the
same, checked in the process list and msiexec seems to be constantly running
and if i end the process it pops straight back up. I have tried running
msiexec /unreg followed by msiexec /regserver but this did not fix it. I have
tried looking in the registry at
HKLM\software\misrosoft\windows\currentversion\installer\InProgress but the
inprogress key did not exist. I have tried using msizap but could not see how
this would help as it just cleans up other installations but as i have many
programs installed I dont know which it is that has caused this. Anyone have
any suggesstions?

Thanks but ive already tried that, it turns out that someone says they
managed to crash out an acrobat reader update install half way through on the
PC a few days ago, so I have used the office clean up utility to wipe the
windows installer config for that but I cant remove it from add/remove
programs as it no longer shows in there but the program is still kind of
installed, all the shortcuts and stuff were still there but not working even
before i ran the utility. I have tried running my install again but still no
joy, the PC is now rebooting, will see if that helps.

Ouch. I can't help much more as I have never had to deal with such a problem
with Windows Installer. You probably have seen the KB below but I will post
it just in case you have not. You also might want to try System Restore as a
last resort because sometimes that seems to make matters worse.
