Windows ignores keyboard after standby

Arnab

Hi,
I've upgraded my computer recently, and in the new
computer, I am facing this problem that WinXP fails to
recognize the Mouse and the Keyboard after it wakes up
from Stand By mode.

The keys with light (eg. capslock) also do not work. At
first I thought Windows freezes after waking up, but it is
not the case, since if I keep the clock open, it keeps
running on the desktop after wake up. Windows only fails
to recognize these devices. This leaves no choice than to
reboot the computer if it is put in the Standby mode.

My mouse and keyboard both are PS/2 devices. Also, when on
standby, moving the mouse or pressing a key would wake the
PC up. If the PC goes to standby once more, again I can
use either of them to wake up. However, they do not
operate at all when the PC has woke up...

I would *very much* appreciate any help for sorting out
this problem!

Thanks a lot,
Arnab.

Arnab,

If your mouse and keyboard are both frozen...how are you wakingup the
machine from stand by-mode?

Does this probelm happen if you plug a different mouse or keyboard into your
machine?

In any case the first thing is to check BIOS settings regarding the power
saving features of your motherboard.

Next would be to check for updated drivers for the mouse/keyboard etc. Are
they generic or special (ie logitech)

I know you mentioned PS/2 devices but you may also checkout this Microsoft
KB article:

Hi Joshua,

It's really strange... the keyboard and mouse work for
waking up the PC, and after the PC has woke up, they
completely stop responding.

Thanks for pointing me to the KB article. I will try the
tweak when I reach home... I am in office now. Hopefully
it solve the problem (my fingers are crossed...)

Regards,
Arnab.

Hi Joshua,

I had a similar problem with my Logitech mouse, it would stop responding
after the system booted. But the keyboard worked. If I then unplugged
and plugged back in the mouse, it would then start working again. This
problem went away after I downloaded the latest Logitech driver for the
mouse.
