For some reason windows firewall has switched itself off and I cannot swtich
it on again. If I go in to " services" via Control Panel --> System Admin,
right click on Windows firewall, go to Properties --> General --> Status of
service then click start, I get the following response. Can anyone help me
understand what's wrong here and please find me a fix for this.
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi,

Please try this:

Start/Run --> cmd.exe

and then, in the command prompt that opened up, type:

netsh.exe winsock reset

and hit Enter. Follow prompts and reboot.

After resetting winsock you should re-install any applications which
are layered service providers (lsp). typical apps of this nature are
3rd party firewalls and anti-virus/anti-spyware.

Torgeir,

I have the same problem and just tried your fix and it didn't work for me.
I did your fix twice and after each time I go to turn on the firewall and I
get "Windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated
service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) Service?" I click Yes, Then it goes through a
Starting ICS thing then opens the windows firewall settings form. Off is
checked and I am unable to check on. It is greyed out. Can you suggest
anything else??

Thanks
Mike
