Windows Firewall in XP Embedded - but no Firewall.cpl applet.

C

Control Freq

Wow,
I have been debugging a problem with an XP embedded touch screen. One
problem is that the XP Embedded touch screen doesn't respond to ping
requests.

Many people told me to check the firewall settings, but I had no
firewall installed on my XP Embedded image (OR SO I THOUGHT).

Anyway, after alot of insistance, I copied over the firewall.cpl
control panel applet file from my regular XP Pro Laptop, and copied it
to c:\Windows\system32.

When I ran this on my touch screen - to my astonishment - it showed
that the Windows Firewall was ENABLED!!!!

I am amazed.

I wonder what else has been installed without me selecting it???

I disabled the firewall - and the ping requests started being echoed
as I expected.

This has wasted alot of my time. Why does XP Embedded not install the
Windows Firewall applet, but still ENABLE the firewall? This is just
daft.

Anyway, I thought I would just share my frustrations with you all.

There is a good idea behind this:

You can have functionalities without UIs
(User Interfaces) so the EndUser can not
change or modify a specific function.
So you will find in Target Designer the component
for the functionality and another ony for the Control panel
or User Interface.
