XP-Service Pack 2 has windows firewall preinstalled. Every time I reboot-I
find out that it is shut off. I go to the security center and click it on
(and apply) and it stays on until I shut the computer. When I reboot-It is
off again. Any suggestions?

There are lots of possible reasons for it. You need to give us more
information. I would say the most likely is a result of third party
software.

Has this always been a problem for you? If not, when did the problem start?
Is there any other firewalls installed on the computer? What type of
computer do you have? Are you running the 32 bit version of Windows?

Thanks. My computer also has Nortion Security 2005-which includes its own
firewall. This must be disabling Windows Firewall.

This is quite possible. To have Norton firewall running at the same time as
firewall could cause many headaches. I believe my own firewall
automatically disables the Microsoft firewall. In any case you certainly do
not want the Windows firewall running, so you should be good to go.

:

You should only have one software firewall running at time. Disable the
Microsoft one since it only scans for incoming traffic.
