(Sorry to be starting a new thread, but Google won't allow me to post
to the old thread 'cos it's more than a month old.)

I'm being driven mad by this Status Bar problem. I have XP Home with
SP2. The status bar in IE now seems to be permanently on, which is
what I want, but I have to turn the status bar on whenever I want to
see it in a Windows Explorer window. As soon as I change folder it
disappears.

When I tried installing tweak 67 from kellys-korner I got an error
message reading:
"Cannot import C:\......\....reg: Not all data was successfully
written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other
processes."

Looking in regedit, three of the values seem to be fine but there is
no StatusBarOther value. If I try to add a new value to that key
(HKCU\...\Main) I get an error message reading:
"Cannot create value: Error writing to the registry."

Can you help, please?

"Cannot create value: Error writing to the registry." usually means either
the key is really no longer there (reboot)
or you do not have permissions to write in that key. I am assuming you mean
this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

is that right? You can check the permissions on this if you have logged in
with Administrator rights.

Start | Run | regedt32 | OK | Window | HKEY_CURRENT_USER on Local Machine
then navigate to and select

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Then in the menu up top Security | Permissions.. do the Adminitrator and
Administrators have full-rights there as well as System? Restricted should
have only Read permissions there and Allow inheritable permissions from
parent to propagate to this object should be checked.

On my computer there is no Security menu. Permissions... is in the
Edit menu.

Administrators have full-rights there as well as System? Restricted should
have only Read permissions there and Allow inheritable permissions from
parent to propagate to this object should be checked.

There are 4 groups or users shown: Adminstrators, Owner (me),
RESTRICTED and SYSTEM.

RESTRICTED has ticks (greyed out) for Allow Read and Deny Special
Permissions.

The other three have ticks (greyed out) for Allow Full Control, Allow
Read and Deny Special Permissions.

Does this information help?

Security is in the Security menu selection at the top. If you do not see that in regedt32 then I'm at a loss. Maybe you should tell me your Op sys I assumed Windows XP. The Edit selection in the menu of regedt32 is used for adding keys and values. It has nothing to do with permissions You went on to give me permissions information but unless I know that you are where I told you to be it really doesn't mean much. The greyed out (unavailable) occurs when a selection is inheriting permissions.
