Windows Explorer has encountered a problem...

Peter

For the last two days, whenever I close Windows Explorer a message box
appears some minutes later (anything from 1 to 10 minutes so far) saying:-

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."

It goes on to ask me to send an error report to Microsoft.

Windows Explorer appears to work perfectly well when I use it and I am not
aware of
any other problems.

The only change to my system over the last few days has been the application
of "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB824145)" by
Automatic Update on Saturday morning.

System is Win XP Pro SP1a with all Critical Updates applied.

VirusSan 7.03 is up to date and a scan of my system is clean.

Any ideas what is causing the message?

I've un-installed KB824145 but it's made no difference.

Any suggestions for getting rid of this other than a clean re-install of XP?

It happens occasionally for me as well. I just ignore it and move on.

It's not just occasional for me - it's happening every time I use Explorer.

I had similar prob shortly after Startup of my confuser.
Found something having to do with trojan bedrill.
Go to
www.securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/troja
n.bedrill.html

The Reg Key may be slightly different but it got rid of
the Windows Explorer shutdown problem. My confuser still
runs slow and Explorer seems to double refresh itself. I
think there is still something else in there causing
Explorer (AKA File Manager)to loop/reload.

Don't know if this will help and thank you Bill gates for
naming Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer the same!!
Way too much confusion with those names.
