Windows explorer hangs on right-click

Whenever I right-click on a folder in windows Explorer,
it hangs. If I click on "FIle" in the menu bar, it hangs.
I completely reinstalled XP Pro and it did not help.
Any thoughts? . . .

When you "completely reinstalled," did you format the drive first, and do a
"clean reinstall"? That aside, have you tried upgrading the drivers for
your display adapter? Did this behavior occur after adding software or
hardware? If it isn't the display drivers, then perhaps something that you
installed like hardware, or software, or a utility, or adding/updating a
driver is causing the problem. Think back to when the problem first
occurred, and try to remember if you added anything to your system just
prior to that. Some of the Windows Updates have also been known to cause
problems on certain systems with certain hardware.

Also: Suggested by Kelly in a previous post:

Right click a blank area on the Desktop/Properties/Appearance
/Effects. In the Effects dialog box, click to clear the: "Use the following
Transition effect for menus and tooltips check box, and ok your way out.
