Windows Explorer Crashing

J

John Chapman

Hello,

I have a new install of Windows Vista Ultimate x86 and about 80% of the
time, when I open anything that uses Windows Explorer, such as Control Panel
or My Computer, Windows Explorer pops up an error saying that it is closing.
My taskbar and explorer disappear and reappear a few moments later. The
Event Viewer shows the following two errors:

Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16549, time stamp
0x46d230c5, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000,
exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x026e0810, process id 0xff8,
application start time 0x01c833d268837a65.

and

Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16549, time stamp
0x46d230c5, faulting module PerfCenterCPL.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time
stamp 0x4549bd9a, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000496e5,
process id 0xff8, application start time 0x01c833d268837a65.

What could be the issue?

Machine Specs:
GA-K8NXP-SLI Motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 4600+
4GB Kingston HyperX DDR400
2x WD SATA 3gb 200GB Hard Drives
nVidia PCIe 8600GT 512MB Video Card.

Thanks,

John Chapman

I've got the exact same issue, not much information out there on this
one. By any chance have you installed any of the "Windows Live"
components?

Vista has a new and very useful tool available for situations like this.
Control Panel (Classic view) > Problem Reports and Solutions.

In the left hand pane of Problem Reports and Solutions, click the "View problem
history" link. Right click on the problem and select "View problem details".
In the bottom left corner of the screen, press the "Copy to clipboard" link.
