Windows Explorer Crashes

First off:

I would like to thank everybody for their past help. Some tips have worked and
on some of the ones sending me to the Kelly site I have had trouble with
following the instructions to the letter, but... that's for another time.

Here's my current tale of woe that has been happening for awhile. I also have
to admit I do bring on some of my own problems, but...

Okay here goes:

If I never open explorer, I "seem" to have no real problems. The minute I open
Explorer my troubles start.

If I open Explorer do my thing and close it, within a few minutes I get the
famous "Explorer has experienced an error and will now close" dialog. I then
press okay and then it comes up a second time and I press okay and then
depending on how long I've had Explorer open is whether it totally crashes or I
just have my all my icons and task bar/system tray go south for a few seconds
and then come back missing one or two of my icons in the system tray, or... if
Explorer has been open for awhile, everything goes south and does not come back
and I have to ctr/alt/del to bring up task mgr to reboot.

Once I reboot everything is stable until I open Windows Explorer again.

Now, if I use Windows Explorer for some things and then minimize it without
closing it, I can go hours before it crashes. I've even gotten 5 or so hours of
no problems before crashing with it minimized.

Here's another thing. When rebooting or just turning off the computer after
closing Explorer, there's another kind of error message that flashes across the
screen for a quick second. I think it's one of those "unable to perform a
certain operation" message, but then it goes so fast I can't really catch it to
see it.

I once tried doing several screen shots of the Crash error, by toggling through
the different modules named, but after seeing that it went to module 50 or so, I
decided to stop the captures after module 21 or so.

I don't know if the following might help, but I've copied and pasted a few of
the last error logs from my "Help and Support Center" log files:

Sunday, March 14, 2004 Applicatio n Error Faulting application explorer.exe,
version 6.0.2800.1221, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address

I got the computer in June of last year and it has XP Pro and from the logs it
looks like the problem started on Nov 19 of last year, but my system restore log
shows no new programs or updates done on that date or the day before.

I know, needle in a haystack here, but it can't hurt to ask.

Any ideas???

P.S. I had Explorer open and minimized while writing this and just went to
spell check a word here in Agent, and all my desktop icons and task bar and
system tray went bye-bye and did not come back. Agent stayed open, and Explorer
un-minimized and was still open. There was no error message and I had to reboot
to get everything back.

And in checking the error log right now after this one, there is nothing there
about this time, of course, the whole system crashed and there was no "Explorer
error message" this time.

AAARRRGGGGHHHHH :)

This maybe a long shot, but I have seen similar problems caused by a bad memory card. The machine I am referring to had all types of problems which had resulting in getting all kinds of answers from all types of professionals, but finally had a memory test done and found a bad card. Replaced the card and ola problem solved. Like I stated it maybe a long shot, but I would give it a try.
