"Windows - Delayed Write Failed"

I got an email advertisement from Disney about their free online game,
"Pirates of the Caribbean", so I decided to check it out. I made myself a
pirate and started going through the preliminary, tutorial phases of the
game. Pretty cool game... BUT... about twice per minute, i kept getting
message popups, I'm presuming from the Windows 2000 operating system
itself.

These were 9" wide, 2" tall rectangular message boxes, and their title and
text was allows one of these two, alternating:

Title Bar:
Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Text:
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
\DeviceHarddiskVolume10\$Mft. The data has been lost.
The error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware
or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

Title Bar:
(same as above)
Text:
(same as above, except "Volume11" instead of "Volume 10")

What the devil is THAT all about??? The part about "try to save this file
elsewhere" is especially rich, seeing as I know of no files called "$Mft",
nor do I have any folders anywhere called "\DeviceHarddiskVolume10" or
"\DeviceHarddiskVolume11".

Does "$Mft" in this context have something to do with the Master File Table?
I hope this bloody game didn't mess up my Master File Table! I just got through
recovering from a disastrous MFT corruption problem a month ago, so I don't want
similar trouble again. I'm afraid to shut my computer down now for fear I won't
be able to restart it.

I did notice that when I stopped playing the game, the "Delayed Write Failed"
messages stopped popping up, so hopefully this was just a bug in the game,
and not something that damaged my file system.

Any information anyone can give me on this will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

But then I realized... there's only 9 partitions on my two hard disks. I'm assuming
Windows thinks of these as "Volume1" through "Volume9". Then volumes 10 and
11 must refer to my external hard disk, which has 2 partitions. But some time
earlier, I turned my external hard disk OFF. So it's no wonder Windows couldn't
write to volumes 10 and 11... seeing as how they were turned OFF. Oooooooops.
Now I feel like a dumbass for writing that message to this group.

At least it wasn't anything dire like a screwed-up MFT or a failing main hard disk.
Whew!

Or, as Gilda Radner used to say... "Never mind."
