My copy of Win Defender stopped registering the daily scan. I downloaded a
new copy. Uninstalled Win Defender. The new copy fails during installation
with this message. Installation Error
The wizard was interrupted before Windows Defender could be installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time,
please run setup again.

Needless to say, repeated attempts give the same message.

I've tried turning off my anti-virus software (Steganos) before running the
Win Defender installer.

Any suggestions as to how to get round this?

Is Windows Defender still listed in add or remove programs?

If so, try choosing repair there.

Run disk cleanup and delete all the empty folders for the Defender then try
the installation.

Scan for malware by going here:

Protect your PC and family:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/digitallife/windowslive/liveonecare.aspx

Turn your Anti-virus OFF while installing Defender or onecare and don't
forget to turn ON back again.

Why would you want to run another antivirus while running OneCare. This is
definitely not recommended. See step 2 at this link:
