windows defender

I recently loaded "windows defender" (I have XP SP2--Internet Explorer 7).
Although under options--I have selected the automatic scan--I do not receive
the automatic daily scans; I have to manually select it. Any suggestions?

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments.

WD newsgroup is not working. I was told to go to CP/P&M/scheduled tasks/MP
scheduled can (which is W. Defender). It is there--but it states that there
has never
been an automatic scan (although it is enabled). If I right click--and click
run--it scans.
Also--under "settings"-there is a tab called "start in". This is blank.
Should it be?
I also was able to click--wake up the computer to perform the scan. Any
suggestions?

WD newsgroup is not working.

Try accessing the Defender newsgroups via Outlook Express.

• Server: privatenews.microsoft.com
• Account name: privatenews\spyware
• Password: spyware [<= case-sensitive]

e.g.,
news://privatenews.microsoft.com/microsoft.private.security.spyware.general
should open Defender General newsgroup in Outlook Express (or other default
newsreader)

I see no tabs whatsoever in Defender Tools | Settings, just 2 sections named
Options and Microsoft Spynet.

I don't have the option anywhere either.

Are you sure it's Windows Defender and not, e.g., Forefront?

PLEASE OPEN WINDOWS DEFENDER. GO TO CONFIGURATION. ENTER OPTION AND GET THE
DATE AND TIME
TO SCAN AUTOMATIC. CHOOSE ONE DATE AND ONE TIME THAT YOUR COMPUTER IS
WORKING. IF YOUR
COMPUTER IS OFF THE WD NO WORKING. OR CLICK SCAN MANUAL AND CLOSE. AND USE
YOUR COMPUTER.
I PREFER MANUAL SCAN.
