windows defender

I have just downloaded defender and all seems o.k. however I would like to
add a shortcut to the desktop so I can start defender without going to
Programs, the icon on the desktop at present will not allow me to add a icon
which will do this.
Each time I try to add icon by right click and use send to desktop or create
shortcut when I click on the newly created icons it goes to Windows
defender maintance and tries to reload defender.
any help will be much appreciated

The icon on your desktop now is probably the installer icon because Defender
does not install a desktop icon automatically. On Windows XP go to Start>All
Programs>Windows Defender and right click on it there. Then send short cut to
desktop. While you are there, pin it to the start menu too. That's very handy
for me. If the icon that you already have on your desktop is the installer,
you need to delete it if Windows Defender is already installed.

Hi old Rebel ,
I had tried your start-all-programs-defender and right clicked but did not
get any response that is why I wrote to the group maybe I have a setting that
does not allow this as none of the programs will respone to a right click the
only thing that i see is a movement under the list of programs at the bottom
at the task bar, if I could shorten the list of all programs into 2 lists I
would be able to see what is happening?

thanks for your suggestion
