Windows Defender Shuts Off

I keep finding that my Windows Defender program turns itself off when I start
up my computer. Easy to turn on, but I don't alwasy think of it. Anybody out
there see this before? I can't find a method for fixing this. Would
appreciate help.

I've experienced the same issue since installing OneCare. Curious if you use
the same security? One support actually told me to keep it turned off- I
didn't need it with OneCare. Huh?

Hi, I do not have OneCare installed but Windows Defender keeps shutting
itself off several times a week when I boot up my Windows Vista... I wonder
why

What other antivirus software is installed?

I also do not have OneCare, I have Norton which is shutting down Defender
-conflict of Firewalls- a bit of a pain, but doesn't hurt anything. Always
turns off Defender on re-boot. I hope this helps others (I was terrified that
an intruder was doing this)

Windows Vista comes with Defender -(which cannot be un-installed)- Norton
will shut it down (conflict of firewalls). A pain, but will not hurt
anything. If you do not have Windows Vista, you can un-install Defender,
which you do not need as long as you have Norton up-to date.

I can understand your feelings. Were you the person who installed Norton?
Do you recall whether it mentioned anything about Windows Defender as part
of the installation process?

In my experience with Symantec End Point Protection 11, the person
installing is given a choice about whether or not to "disable" windows
defender--with the recommendation that they do so.
