Windows Defender reboots

When running Windows Defender, it reboots my XP Home machine without
warning. The same thing happens when I run Live OneCare's virus and spyware
search. This computer was infected with the JS/Agent trojan and the Zango
spyware in the past, but they were cleaned up by Defender.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Hello Charlie,

I'm wondering if your machine is crashing because it is heating up too much?
Virus scans are pretty processor and memory intensive applications and
sometimes (especially when you are on a laptop) they tend to crash the
system, which then causes XP to reboot automatically. Try to check if this
is the problem, if not then it might be another virus or process that is
doing this.

Thanks Rishi.
It's a desktop, but I'll try to move things around so that it can get more
air. These crashes do not happen when I run my virus scanner though (NOD32).
