Windows Defender - Limited WinXP User

How can I make Windows Defender work under Limited User?
1. Systray icon is missing
2. Automatic scans won't work
3. Suspect auto updating doesn't work
Can I edit the registry under an administration user to handle this?

Hello Angus0,

Tools – Options – Administrator Options.
Have you check the 2 boxes.

Before Advanced Options, there are 2 boxes, check Always

Is your clock and time zone and date set properly?

Are you running WU/MU automatic/manual, what is your config?

Just for the record. What version are you now showing? Mine indicates
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1505.0 Vista-32 bit system
Windows Defender Version 1.1.1593.0 XP-32 bit system
Engine Version: 1.1.2405.0
Definition Version: 1.17.2450.6

Does that check out with you?

Is better to stay away from the registry. Unless you know what you are doing

Administrator Checked boxes have been there since original installation.

Internet sync shows "time.windows.com"

Auto updates set on WinXP Home Edition. Optional OS MU done also.
Manual re-load of Windows Defender definitions done as Computer
Administrator User;
Definition Version: 1.17.2520.1

Read "How to ask a question"
Too much info is just a diversion for all other trouble-shooters.

Since this is a Beta version still,
I presumed manually registry editting of software permissions would make
program function.
Do it on Anti-Virus program that has extremely low overhead (www.F-Prot.com)

If Windows Defender auto scan has no traces\records,
as in my case,
then how can I tell that any other automatic services that are running
actually function properly?

Other Postings show references to three processes.
I only have two,
even when watching while a check for updating is performed through the
Windows Defender program dialoque boxes.
MSASCui.exe & MsMpEng.exe are always there, under Limited or Computer Admin
Users.
MpCmdRun.exe never shows up on process task list.

Manual scan works.
