All right!

There's got to be a better way to figure out what is available and what is
not, but if you grab the two characters following "displaylang=" and start
trying things, here's what I find so far:

it (Italian)
en (english)
es (Spanish)
de (German)

are what I've managed to spot so far.

Didn't spot Dutch, French, Norwegian--but I didn't spot Japanese either, and
I had thought that was already available.

OK - here's Japanese:

I've been going through the list here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/wwlist.aspx?displaylang=en

and frankly, the mind boggles at the complexity of this localization work,
and the political ramifications. What statement is being made if you
release translation for country A, but not for country B their neighboring
arch-rivals? Remembering the time-zone controversy of some years ago, I'm
glad I'm not the exec making these decisions.

Engel--probably my mistake--There's a checkbox on each site about whether to
display downloads that are in English, perhaps my methodology is faulty.

I believe that anyone with Vista Ultimate can see that there are 15
language-versions other than English available for that product, so I would
expect that work to filter down to Windows Defender for XP before too long,
but I've no idea how this works.

I also note that the date on the Italian download is the second of
January--so whatever versions there are have been around for awhile, maybe.

Have your friend try this link:

Let's see if that works better.

Looking at the download page, there's a simple drop down control box that
tells what languages are available--looks like we've got them all: German,
Italian, Spanish, English, and Japanese.
