Windows defender History

I see from my history list that when Windows defender has alerted to to
certain programms, that the action taken was to permit the programm. I may
have allowed some of these 'permissions' through ingnorance of how Windows
defender operates however, I now realise that some of the programms should
have been denied or removed. How can I change the action of selected
permited programms?

Thanks in advance for any help that's offered.

Hello Jake,

Tools - Software Explorer – Category. Drop the menu, and select, and look
for any entry you don't want and try to Disable or Remove.

Thank you. Your answer relates to Software Explorer. My question relates to
Windows Defender History and the behavioural apects of a program reported by
Windows Defender. Many programms that have been clssified as 'permitted'. My
question is how do I change this classification for programmes that should
not have been permitted in the first instance. It seems that once the
programm action is permitted, there is no way to change this.

You can't change the classification directly.

You can choose a higher level of Spynet participation, which will report
more data about what you choose to permit and what you choose not to permit
to Microsoft--that data will inform their judgements about what items are
targeted for removal.

You can also make settings choices to get prompted for "unknowns"--i.e.
software not yet classified. You should be aware that if you do so, you may
get cryptic prompts that you don't know what to make of, at times. In my
experience, the vast majority of unknowns are perfectly reputable (?!)
drivers from vendors of hardware you have installed and are trying to keep
up to date.

Hi,

I'm a little confused by the wording of your question. As Bill has already
alluded to, you can't change the actual classification of a given program.

If however you are referring to removing a program from the Allowed Items
list, you can remove it by clicking on "Tools||Allowed Items" and then
highlight the Item in the list you wish to remove and click the "Remove from
list" button.

Refer to the Help Section:
"Add or remove items from the Windows Defender allowed list"

Good luck,

Donald Anadell
