Windows Defender Download Problem

William McCown

I have downloaded and tried to install the latest version of Windows
Defender. Now, every time that I boot up the computer a wizard saying that
MSVCR80.dll couldn't be found, cannot start MSASCui.exe. The installation
process said that the old version of WD would be deleted during the
installation of the new version (1.14.1530.8, KB915597).

The total disk area since the new download for WD in about 10MB and since
the above download was 5.49MB this may mean that the older version was not
removed during installation. I don't know if I have a WD download problem
or have somehow removed MSVCR80.dll. My name is William McCown and my
e-mail address is (e-mail address removed)

This error may be the result of an installation problem.

Can you please look at c:\program files\Windows Defender for a file called:

MSAScui.exe.manifest

Note the .manifest suffix.

If you find this file, please rename or delete it. That should take care of
the problem.
