HP Notebook with Vista Home Premium just recently began getting the Windows
could not search for Updates: error 0x80070002. I referred this to Microsoft
and have tried all of their "fixes". Here are several that were tried.
1. stop auto update service and delete the Windows/SoftwareDistribution/
folder, restart service
2. Check for system32/logfiles/Firewall folder
3. Register the following:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL /s
REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /s
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL /s
REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL /s
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL /s
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL /s
REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /s
4. sent logfiles and system info file
5. try to download and install yhe WUA 3.0 update engine. However nothing
seems to work coming from Microsoft. Can't even download them manually.
6. I turned off the firewall and Anti-virus.

I've about given up. It seems there have been many posts recently regarding
this same error. Has anyone have solution? I think MS doesn't want to admit
(again) that they have a problem.

Bob, thanks for the suggestion but Google was the first place I looked. The
fix for kb935807 was one of the first procedures I tried. This is on my son's
laptop and I'm trying to talk him through what to do over the phone. He tried
to download the patch and it came back saying it wasn't needed, yet he says
he can't find where it says it was previously installed.
