Hi all,

I am running Win2k server SP4 and receiving the above error message in
the event log on the server. This is the only error message in the
application event log and it is replicated every 5 minutes or so.

Source. Userenv
Category. None
Event ID 1000.

I am not sure if this error is restricting the system from some of the
security measures. All users are supposed to be restricted to a
specific log on and log off times. The server is controlling the log
on times ok, but once logged on the user is able to stay logged on
after the designated log off time. I have set the security in the
group policy to automatically log off the user at a specific time, but
this is not happening?

Does anyone have any ideas on whether the two things are related, and
how to solve these issues?

Thanks for your help in advance.

best regards

Paul

The clients are pointing to the internal nic on the server.
IP address 192.168.0.1 DNS Is set to this.

I have also tried adding the DNS servers to ISP's DNS (this causes
other problems)
The external nic is configured to the Cable ISP.

Clients (All win2ksp4 pro) are auto addressed in the range 192.168.0.2
- 192.168.0.10

I have looked at that web site amongst others, but these do not offer
a solution to error code 59.

I am also running Norton Antivirus (2004) & Interent security
(2004)which I note from other posts could be having an effect, however
I still receive this
error message when this software is disabled.

Any clues?

Regards

Paul

Error code 59 means that the specified resource does not exist. Or more to
the point in this case that it cannot be found. This is almost always due
to a misconfiguration issue.

Try uninstalling (rather than disabling) firewall software. Sometimes
"disabled" firewalls aren't.

Can you ping in both directions (server <-> client) by name? By IP address?

Yes, I am able to ping both ways client to server , and back with
names and ip addresses.

Also I have uninstalled firewall and the error message is not being
seen in the event log.

It looks like the problem may stem from the firewall. I am going to
test the log-on and log -off issues and see if these are resolved
whilst the firewall is uninstalled.

Thanks for all your help. I'll keep you posted of the outcome.

Update,
In fact the server is logging off the users to the network, although
the clients get no visible warning that this is happening. Files and
print access blocked and displays network connection warnings.
However the internet is still available even though the client is
passed their log on time.

I understood (tell me if I am wrong) that the internet connection NIC
2 is controlled as part of the network resources.

How do i shut down access to the internet when the client is logged
off automatically?

BTW
The event id 1000 error (59) message does not appear when NIS is
disabled.
