Windows can not find 'C:\windows\system32\nvidex32.exe'

Deborah

I have Windows XP. When I sign onto my computer it gives
me the following error message:
Windows can not find 'C:\windows\system32\nvidex32.exe'.
Make sure you have typed the name correctly and then try
agin. To search for a file, click the start button, and
then click Search. Box has OK.
When I click "OK" another error message comes up:
DESKTOP
Could not load or run 'C\windows\system32\nvidex.32.exe'
specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on
your computer or remove the reference to it in the
registry. Box "OK"

Hi Deborah,

Your antivirus software removed the trojan (nvidex32.exe is the gema
trojan), but did not clean up the damage it did. Start/run regedit, look in
the right hand pane under these keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

One of them will likely have a string value referencing nvidex32.exe. Click
on it and delete it. Close the registry editor when complete. This should
resolve the issue.
