Windows Calendar Reminder NOT working

S

Syed

Hello,
I've been using Windows Calendar that comes with Vista Ultimate is not
working as it used to. The problem is, when i set the new appointment and set
it to remind me, it doesnt remind me anymore.

What i've tried:
1. File > Options > Reminders should show when calendar not running
2. Patch that "suppose" to fix this issue (Windows6.0-KB933942-x86)

So, when i set the appointment and close the calendar, it doesnt remind me.
If i leave it open then it reminds me.

Any suggestions?

hello syed,
I have had the same problem. I looked at the kb and it says that it is only
intended for systems that throw an error instead of the reminder. do you get
the error that the kb talks about, or does the reminder just not show up? I
have never gotten the error message. The option to show reminders even when
closed doesn’t do anything for me either. I'm gonna do some looking around
and I will let you know if I find anything.

I didnt get the error message. The only problem is that it doesnt show
reminders anymore. I tried that kb because it was "almost" related to my
problem.

I dont get any error message. Please do let me know, i've been also looking
for a long time.

Hey syed,
I didn’t have much luck. One thread was a discussion between a Ultimate user
and a home premium user. The Ultimate guy said it was all peachy for him and
the Home Premium was the one having problems. I hope this is not another
feature that Microsoft neglects to tell you doesn’t work in your version. I
had a problem with an unsupported feature a while back. I found out that
Home Premium does not support saving a windows logon credential for another
windows computer. I had to write a batch file to connect to my other
computer after so many seconds to get it to work right. We might be able to
come up with a batch file solution for this too. just let me know if you are
willing to try it.

hey, just looked back at your first post and saw that you are running
Ultimate. That shot my idea out of the sky. sorry. I will let you know if
I find out anything else. maybe SP1 will smooth out some stuff that really
needs it.

Go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
Or, type "services.msc" into Start menu's search bar, press enter.

Make sure Task Scheduler is set to Automatic and
is started.

Calendar? I want to make sure it is running right. thanks,

Task Scheduler is located in Control Panel>Administrative Tools
Or, type "taskschd.msc" into Start Menu's search bar, press enter.

Once Task Scheduler is open, look under-
Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>WindowsCalendar

It should list any reminders there.

Hi Michael,
I have tried both things, first looked in Services to see if scheduler
service is automatically started. Then i looked into Task Scheduler, but
there were NO reminders or scheduled tasks.

But i'm pretty sure that my task scheduler is working because my Windows
Defender is also working through Task Scehduler (i think).

I dont see any scheduled task under WindowsCalendar in Task Scheduler.

Any thoughts?

Are you sure you're setting the appointments/tasks
correctly? I use Outlook's Calendar, so I'm not an
expert on using Windows Calendar. I've played
around with it, but that's it.

When you set an appointment, to the right of the calendar
are the details of that appointment when you click that
day or reminder. There's a line that says "Reminder" and
has a drop down that will let you pick when it reminds you.

Oh, I forgot. In the upper right, look under File>Options
Be sure there's a check beside-
"Reminders should show when Windows Calendar is not running"

there was a bug where the command line was not constructed correctly in task manager for calendar.

might give the MS knowledge base search.
misplaced the exact information.

I'm so sorry, that should read-

In the upper *left* of Windows Calendar, look under File>Options
Be sure there's a check beside-
"Reminders should show when Windows Calendar is not running"

yea, i just right click on the time and Create New Appointment. I usually set
the reminder time to 30 Min, but just for testing i setted 5 Min.

I've checked: File > Option checkbox too.

best as I can remember under the Actions Tab for Windows Calendar under Scheduled tasks.
it should look like this

C:\Program Files\Windows Calendar\WinCal.exe /reminder

I've searched MS KB, but nothing comes up for me. Can you find me that one?
