Windows Automatic Update Popup Problem

Guest

I'm having trouble with my windows automatic updates program. I keep getting
the message "updating your computer is almost complete. you must restart your
computer for the updates to take effect. do you want to restart your computer
now?" and no matter how many times I restart my computer, I keep getting that
message in my taskbar. When I try to go to the website and redownload the
updates, it tell me that "You need to restart your computer to finish
installing a program or updates. You cannot view or get other updates from
the site until you restart. " so that doesn't solve the problem either. Any
suggestions? All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Please post a copy of the Warning / Error Report from Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Go to the update site, make note of what updates are listed to be installed.
Then close up without installing or downloading any of them. Go to the
Control Panel/Add & Remove, enable the option at the top to show updates.
See if any of those listed as installed match those on the update site. If
so, uninstall those (that) update(s). Reboot, then revisit the update site.
