Windows 98 Machine Cannot Pickup Permissions Assignment

I need some help. I have a user who has a Windows 98 machine; it is fully up
to date with MS updates. I have assigned permissions to her user account to
be able to modify files in a subdirectory in the network file system. Even
after rebooting her Win 98 machine, she still cannot modify files in the
subdirectory. Most of the workstations on the network are Windows XP
machines; the server is a Windows Server 2003.

I even tried assigning Full Control permission to her in that particular
file system location - made no difference. On another note, it's a unique
permissions assignment, so doesn't lend itself to a group permissions
assignment.

What am I missing? I really need to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help.

Bear in-mind that permissions assigned to a folder only apply to new files
created within that folder since that assignement was made. Existing files
retain their permissions and ownership. Likewise, files moved into that
folder - and which already have permissions - do not necessarily acquire the
folder's permisisons.

You can of course force a replacement of permissions on all files within the
folder, but that will lose any other rights on the files.

I would advise using share permissions to control group/user access. They
are more limited in scope, but don't suffer from these issues.

Does it work for her when she is logged onto an XP computer? Why would it
not work for a group?? Note that share and NTFS permissions both affect a
network user so she would need at least change permissions for the share
permission also either explicitly or via group membership.
