windows 98 files missing in 2000

I had a disk with files that were created in word on
windows 98. I opened them and viewed them in windows
2000 without a problem, then I hit the refresh button in
explorer when drive a was highlighted. Now when I click
on drive A, it asks me if I want to format the disk and
the files aren't visible. How do I get to see the files
again?
