Windows 98 computers causing account lockouts

M

Matt Nowell

Morning,

I'm wondering if anybody out there has seen (or fixed!) a
problem like the one we're seeing:

Problem: Windows 98 computers are apparently causing
frequent locking of an account that is logged into on
approximately 42 PC's concurrently. Domain policy is set
to lock account after 6 failed passwords. In most
instances, the account lock can be verified to be from the
same computer, ie all 6 attempts are performed from the
same Windows 98 workstation, although multiple
workstations are causing lockouts at various times. This
Domain controller is at Windows 2000 Sp2.

Resolution attempts: We've applied the hotfix referred to
in Q317796 to no avail. Account locks still occur. We'd
like to upgrade the DC to at least SP3, but are in a
holding pattern due to timing.

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt Nowell

Got WINS installed on the server? W9x needs it.
I also advise you to install SP4 (or at least SP3) on your DC.
