Windows 7

Based on everything Microsoft has leaked about Windows 7 why is it not being
called Vista Service Pack 2?
The worst problem with Vista, exclusive of horrid networking, is incredibly
slow disc access compared to XP, Win9.x, OS anything and Linux.
If that is improved in Windows 7, as Microsoft claims, why is that not being
released as a fix that Microsoft owes everyone unlucky enough to be stuck
using Vista?
I smell class action lawsuit: I hope Balmer grows a brain and is paying
attention.

You are too stupid for any Microsoft product. Better get with Alias and he
will set you up with Open Source. Perfect for you. Ubuntu HERE YOU GO.

All of that was fixed in SP1. Try to pay attention.

No it wasn't. Disk access is still slow compared to XP. Networking
sucks, from slow shares, to dropped connections, to an inability to
change networks, to an inability to change network devices, to an
inability to support two network interfaces, etc, etc, etc

Try to pay attention.

All baloney. Have you ever actually used Vista?

I've definitely seen a slow down in disk access, especially network
shares after upgrading from Xp pro to Vista Business. Before SP1
it was ridiculous but even with SP1 it's very noticeably slower.
And I'm a developer using my Vista Box 8 hours a day.

Things were a little bit slower here pre SP1, after SP1 I see no
difference. My guess is it is hardware/driver related, as it is not a
universal problem.

I'm a developer also, using Vista Ultimate 64, Server 2003 and 2008, and
XP VMs in VPC.

SP1 certainly helped but I still get some slow down checking out my SVN
sandbox from
my server. Nothing too bad. Where I notice it most is copying files from
a remote
VPN connection.

I'm using Vista Business 32 bit SP1 on an AMD Athlon Dual core 5400B 2.8 GHz
with 4 GB ram.

At first I hated Vista but I'm starting to get used to it. I wasn't happy
about having
to drop VS 2003 because Vista doesn't support it. I'm mostly using VS2005
for
current projects but we have a lot of older projects that we still do
maintenance support
on. I've had to upgrade them to 2005 and that makes me have to deal with
manifests
that weren't needed with 2003. Aside from that it's not so bad. I still
use XP at home and
don't really see any need to update.

Windows 7 is a bigger change that you perhaps realise, it's certainly
a
great deal more than just a service pack!

FWIW, SP1 fixed the slower disk access ;-)

Maybe it's faster that Vista SP0, but it's still slower than XP both
locally and across the network.
