hi friends
i have a question.If my Windows 2000 PDC Crashes due to
Operating System problems does my Win2k BDC automatically
take the PDC FSMO Roles which is crashed or do i have to
run the NTDSUTIL.EXE to seize the Roles.How can i repair
my crashed PDC.Once i make it ready by reinstalling the
Operating System and Join it to Domain.Do i have to give
the same computer name as before and join it to the
domain.how do i make it again as the PDC.

You'll need to perform metadata cleanup of Active Directory to remove
references to the failed DC:

You also need to manually seize the PDC Emulator FSMO role to another
server, it does not happen automatically.

Once you rebuild the server, you can bring it online with the same name or a
different name, just be sure to update your DNS records accordingly. After
you've run dcpromo again, you can seize the PDC Emulator role back to the
repaired server.
