windows 2K character displayed does not match key entered

IHA computer that has been running windows 2K for over 6
months that has started displaying a differtnt character
than the one depressed...ie you hit the r key and it
displays a p...swapped out keyboard with known good
keyboard....same result. is there a program similar to the
DOS command language interpreter that needs to be
reloaded, or is there some other cause?

Have you by any chance got a foreign keyboard loaded in Keyboards(Control
Panel) or the incorrect Regional Setting (also in Control panel)?

If not, perhaps you could try adding a new keyboard eg German (which isn't
too far off), deleting your current one, restarting Windows (make sure that
you know where the keys are which you need for your password first).

Then re-add your current one.
